In a city with dispensaries as common as coffee shops, Denver is undoubtedly the epicenter of the legal cannabis movement. And if you’re in the business of bud, it’s a good place to be: Colorado accounted for a third of the country’s 2.7 billion dollar cannabis market last year.

But with being America’s fastest growing industry, comes growing pains. Cannabis is still illegal on the federal level which conflicts with some state laws that have legalised it for recreational use, but even with this market projections for the next five years are set to climb to over $11 Billion Dollars.

American financial institutions are regulated at the federal level and because of the conflicts in state and federal law most businesses in the industry are operating without a bank account. This leaves some businesses dealing solely in cash or in a state of limbo where they try to line up another bank before the one they’re with shuts them out.
